Nuclear Binding and Half-Lives
نویسنده
چکیده
Nuclear Forces. Protons give the nucleus of an atom a net positive charge. So, why doesn’t the nucleus explode? Nuclear stability is possible because the particles in the nucleus are each tiny magnets, and magnets can be arranged to attract one another. When the particles inside the nucleus have specific locations, the forces from electrical charge can be in balance with the magnetic forces from moving charge. But if the location of even one particle is sufficiently changed, the entire nucleus can become unstable.

Half lives alpha decay is the one of the most important parameters used for describing nuclear structure in nuclear dynamics; over the years, many studies have been done in this area. In this study, by using semi-empirical methods such as Viola-Seaborg (VSS), Royer, Parkhomenko and Sobiczewski (PSM), Brown, New Geiger-Nuttall (NGN), Poenaru et al. (UNIV) and Universal Decay Law (UDL), the half ...
متن کاملTowards high accurate neutron-induced fission cross sections of 240,242Pu: Spontaneous fission half-lives
Fast spectrum neutron-induced fission cross sections of transuranic isotopes are being of special demand in order to provide accurate data for the new GEN-IV nuclear power plants. To minimize the uncertainties on these measurements accurate data on spontaneous fission half-lives and detector efficiencies are a key point. High -active actinides need special attention since the misinterpretation ...
متن کامل2003 review of neutron and non-neutron nuclear data.
This paper reviews the scientific literature for new measurements of both non-neutron and neutron nuclear data. Some of the highlights of this review are the following items. There was a withdrawal of a previous claim for discovery of element 118. There have been new measurements of some isotopic abundance values that have led to changes for many elements. There was a new set of recommended sta...
متن کاملAn engineered human IgG1 antibody with longer serum half-life.
The serum half-life of IgG Abs is regulated by the neonatal Fc receptor (FcRn). By binding to FcRn in endosomes, IgG Abs are salvaged from lysosomal degradation and recycled to the circulation. Several studies have demonstrated a correlation between the binding affinity of IgG Abs to FcRn and their serum half-lives in mice, including engineered Ab fragments with longer serum half-lives. Our rec...
متن کاملComparison of Radon (222Rn) and Thoron (220Rn) Gamma Dosimetry in the Environment Using the ORNL Mathematical Phantom
Background: The potential hazards of exposure to radiation from radon have been of great concern worldwide, as it is associated with an increased risk of lung cancer. Radon (222Rn) and its progeny are the main sources of radioactivity in the environment. The half-life of 222Rn (3.82 days) is long enough for it to diffuse into and build up in homes. 220Rn or thoron from the 232Th series, and 219...
